Audition Requirements

1. A solo
   
   An unaccompanied solo of your choice without repeats (2-4 minutes) in one take. Please state your full name and instrument, plus the title and composer of your solo at the beginning of the recording.
   
2. Scales
   
   • For violin
     • A 3 octave major scale of your choice in eighth notes (slurred or separate bow stroke) at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
     • A melodic minor scale of your choice: 2 or 3 octaves in eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
     • Spiccato: one octave major scale, 4 sixteenth notes per pitch at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
   • For viola
     • One major scale, 2 or 3 octaves of your choice in eighth notes (slurred or separate bow stroke) at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72. Showing skills in 3rd position and 5th position if possible.
     • One melodic minor scale of your choice: 2 or 3 octaves in eighth notes or quarter notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
   • For cello and double bass
     • One 2 or 3 octave major scale in quarter notes or eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
     • One 2 octave melodic minor scale in quarter notes or eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
   • For winds
     • A 2 octave major scale of your choice in eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
     • A melodic minor scale of your choice: 2 octaves in eighth notes. Quarter note = 60-72. Please play one scale slurred and the other staccato.
   • For French horn, trumpet, and trombone
     • A 2 octave major scale of your choice in eighth notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60-72.
     • A melodic minor scale of your choice: 2 octaves in eighth notes at a quarter note = 60-72. Please play one scale slurred and the other staccato.
3. Percussion requirements
   
   • Play two solos. Include the sheet music of each with your audition recording (email to: conductor@stocktonyouthsymphony.org).

The complete video recording should be no longer than seven (7) minutes. Post or upload your audition recording to the service of your choice (YouTube, iCloud, Google Drive, etc.). Check your share settings (public or unlisted). Finally, fill out and submit this Google form.
