Welcome Dr. Edward Cetto

The Stockton Youth Symphony is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Edward “Teddy” Cetto as its new conductor. Dr. Cetto brings a wealth of experience and an inspiring vision to the podium, aiming to elevate the musical, social, and emotional growth of the young musicians in our community.

With a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa and advanced degrees from the Boston Conservatory of Music and the Hartt School of Music, Dr. Cetto has a distinguished career that spans over four decades. He has held significant positions, including his recent role as Conductor for the Menlo Church in Menlo Park, CA, and the San Francisco Boys Chorus. Dr. Cetto has also served as the Bass Section Leader at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and was the Music Director and Organist at the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham, MA. His extensive experience in choral and instrumental music education, including his tenure as Director of Choral Activities at the University of the Pacific and as Conductor of the Stockton Youth Chorale, underscores his commitment to nurturing young talent.

Dr. Cetto’s innovative approach combines professional orchestral musicians with high school students. His rehearsals are renowned for their blend of joy, concentration, and disciplined work ethic, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

“It’s my hope that each moment of Stockton Youth Symphony music making will inspire musical, social, and emotional growth for each student, and be the highpoint of their week,” said Dr. Cetto. “I look forward to recruiting and building an orchestra that showcases the best musicians throughout the Valley.”

Dr. Cetto’s dedication to music education is evident in his diverse teaching repertoire, which includes ear training, general music education, Kodály methodology, and performance practice. His pedagogical philosophy ensures that musicianship and ensemble performance are taught with excellence and enthusiasm.
